How to Use the Hindi Font Generator

A complete walkthrough, from typing your first Hindi word to downloading a clean PNG for Instagram, WhatsApp, YouTube or a wedding card. Every button explained, with fixes for the most common problems.

Quick start in four steps

If you only have a minute, this is the whole process. The rest of the page explains each step in more detail, so you can come back to it when you get stuck.

  1. 1

    Type your text

Click the box at the top of the generator and type in Hindi, English or both. You can write up to 200 characters.

  2. 2

    Set size, colours and effect

Drag the size slider, choose a text colour and a background colour, and add an effect if you want one.

  3. 3

    Find a font you like

Scroll through the cards, or narrow them down with the style tabs, the Best for shortcuts or the search box.

  4. 4

    Copy or download

Press Copy for plain text. Press PNG or Transparent to save the styled text as an image.

Remember one thing: the Copy button copies only the letters, never the font. If you want the exact look somewhere else, download the PNG.

Every control explained

The generator looks busy at first, but each control does one small job. This table lists them in the order you meet them, from the text box down to the buttons on each font card.

Step-by-step walkthrough

Step 1: Enter your text

The box already contains a sample phrase, so you can see results the moment the page loads. Select it and type your own words. Every font card updates as you type, so there is no Generate button to press.

Use a real phrase, not a single letter. Hindi shapes depend on how letters join, and only a full word or sentence shows you the true spacing. If you are not sure how to type a word, the Hindi character map lets you click letters, matras and symbols and copy them into the box.

Step 2: Choose a size

The slider controls the size of the letters on every card. Start around 30px to compare fonts, then raise it when you have narrowed your choice. If you plan to use the image on a phone screen, check the result at a small size too, because thin strokes and small marks like the chandrabindu can fade.

Step 3: Pick colours

Choose a text colour and a background colour. High contrast is almost always the safest choice: dark text on a light background, or light text on a dark one. If you are unsure, our colour combinations section on the home page lists pairs that stay readable.

Step 4: Add an effect (optional)

Effects change how the letters are drawn, not what they say.

  • Outline draws only the edges of each letter. Use it with bold fonts.
  • Shadow adds a soft shadow so text stands out on a light background.
  • Glow adds a halo in your text colour. It is only visible on dark backgrounds.
  • 3D stacks small offsets for a raised look. Keep it to one or two words.
  • Gradient blends from your text colour to purple. Keep it to a headline.

Step 5: Narrow down the fonts

There are 61 fonts, shown 12 at a time. That is a lot to scroll through, so use the filters:

  • Use the style tabs if you already know the mood you want: calligraphic, heavy, traditional or plain.
  • Use Best for if you know the purpose, such as a name or a wedding invitation.
  • Use Search font name if you remember a font from somewhere else.
  • Use Sort A–Z to scan the list alphabetically.

If a filter leaves nothing to show, a "No font matches these filters" message appears with a Clear filters link.

Step 6: Copy or download

When a card looks right, use the buttons under it. Copy places your plain text on the clipboard. PNG and Transparent create an image on your own device, so nothing is uploaded. Get font opens the font's Google Fonts page, which is useful when you want to install the font in another program.

Before you publish a PNG, open it once and check the line breaks, the spacing and the small marks. It takes a few seconds and catches most problems.

How to make: Instagram, WhatsApp, YouTube and cards

The same four steps work for every project. What changes is the font you pick, the colours and where you place the finished image. Here are the most common cases.

Instagram quote post

  1. Type your quote. Short lines read better on a square post.
  2. Open the Stylish & Calligraphy tab, or use the Names shortcut for a name.
  3. Pick a background colour that matches your feed and a high-contrast text colour.
  4. Press PNG and upload it, or place a Transparent PNG on a 1080 × 1080 px canvas.

WhatsApp status or story

  1. Use a short greeting such as सुप्रभात or शुभ रात्रि.
  2. Choose a friendly font and a large size.
  3. Download the normal PNG and post it as an image status.
  4. For a tall story, put a Transparent PNG on a 1080 × 1920 px canvas in a design app.

YouTube thumbnail

  1. Keep the text to two to four words.
  2. Press the Posters & thumbnails shortcut and choose a heavy font.
  3. Add an Outline or Shadow so the text stands out from the picture.
  4. Download a Transparent PNG, then place it on a 1280 × 720 px canvas over your image.

Wedding or pooja invitation

  1. Press the Wedding & invitations shortcut.
  2. Type the names and test the longest one, since conjunct-heavy names show spacing problems.
  3. Try gold text on a deep maroon or green background for a traditional look.
  4. Download a Transparent PNG and place it on your card design.

Canva or Photoshop

  1. Download a Transparent PNG from the generator.
  2. In Canva, upload it from the Uploads tab and drag it onto your design. In Photoshop, open it or place it as a layer.
  3. Resize from a corner so the letters keep their shape.

Word, Google Docs or your own site

  1. Press Get font to open the font on Google Fonts.
  2. For Word, download the family and install it, then restart Word. For Google Docs, search the font name in its font menu first.
  3. For a website, follow the setup in the website section of the home page.

PNG or Transparent: which to download

Both buttons make an image of your styled text. The only difference is the background.

PNGTransparent
BackgroundFilled with the background colour you choseNone, so the image can sit on any photo or colour
Best forPosting straight away as a finished pictureLayering in Canva, Photoshop or a presentation
Watch out forThe background colour is fixed in the fileLight text can look invisible on a white viewer until you place it on a darker design
EffectsIncludedIncluded, drawn without a background

How big is the file? The image is drawn at up to three times the size of the preview, with a small margin around the text. Long text wraps at a fixed width, and very large images are drawn at a smaller scale automatically so phone browsers can still create the file. If you want to control where lines break, press Enter in the text box.

What is the file called? The name starts with "hindi-font", then the font name, then the effect if you used one, and "transparent" for a transparent image. That makes it easy to tell several downloads apart.

Using it on a phone

The generator works in a mobile browser, and most people reach it from their phone. A few habits make it smoother.

  • Add a Hindi keyboard first. On Android, Gboard has a Hindi transliteration layout where typing "namaste" gives नमस्ते. On iPhone, add Hindi under Keyboards in Settings.
  • Type, then scroll. The cards sit below the box. After you type, scroll down to compare fonts; the previews update on their own.
  • Check your connection. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts when you need them. On a slow connection a card can show a plain font for a moment.
  • Find your download. Depending on your browser and phone, the PNG goes to your Downloads folder or the Files app. If you cannot see it, check the browser's downloads list.
  • Post from the gallery. If your phone saves the image to Files, move it to your gallery before sharing it to social apps.

Tips for better-looking results

  1. Test your real words. A font that looks good on one phrase can look poor on another. Always type the exact text you plan to use.
  2. Use two fonts at most in a design. One expressive font for the headline and one plain font for everything else is enough. The generator makes one font per image, so download two PNGs and combine them in a design app.
  3. Contrast beats decoration. If you are choosing between a fancy effect and a clearer colour pair, pick the colour pair.
  4. Keep lines short. Short lines are easier to read and wrap more predictably in the PNG.
  5. Match the font to the mood. Brush-like fonts feel festive, heavy fonts feel loud, serif fonts feel formal and plain sans-serif fonts feel modern.
  6. Check at the smallest size. Shrink your design to the size people will see it at and make sure the small marks are still visible.
  7. Avoid letter-spacing in other apps. Extra spacing can break the line that joins Devanagari letters. Keep it at zero.
  8. Read the licence for commercial projects. The fonts come from Google Fonts, which are open-licensed. For a large commercial product, still read the licence on the font's page.

Troubleshooting

Most problems have a simple cause. Find yours in the table below.

Questions about using the tool

Is the generator free, and do I need to sign up?

It is free and there is no account or sign-up. Open the page, type your text and download.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. The layout adapts to small screens and the PNG is created in your browser. Very large images are drawn at a smaller scale automatically so phone browsers can still make them.

Can I use two different fonts in one image?

Not in a single download. Each PNG uses one font. Make one PNG for each font and combine them in Canva, Photoshop or any design app.

Can I colour just one word differently?

No. Each image uses one text colour. For a two-colour line, make two PNGs with different colours and place them next to each other in a design app.

How do I start a new line?

Press Enter in the text box. The previews and the downloaded PNG both show your line breaks.

What size should I choose for a social post?

Choose a size that looks good in the preview, then place the Transparent PNG on a canvas of the right dimensions in your design app. Common sizes are 1080 × 1080 px for a square post, 1080 × 1920 px for a story and 1280 × 720 px for a thumbnail.

Does the generator work offline?

No. The fonts are requested from Google Fonts when you need them, so you need an internet connection.

Why can I not find a font I know?

The generator lists fonts that are on Google Fonts and include Devanagari. If a font is missing, send its name to contact@hindifontgen.in and it may be considered.

Can I use the images commercially?

The fonts are published under open licences, and an image made with them is generally fine for posts, thumbnails and printed designs. If you plan to redistribute a font file or embed it in software, read the licence on its Google Fonts page first.

Something looks wrong. Where do I report it?

Write to contact@hindifontgen.in with the text you typed, the font name and the browser or phone you used. That makes the problem much easier to reproduce.
